Chelsea fans react as former duo combine to score opener against Manchester United in the Champions League

Manchester United locked in action

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United are currently locked in Champions League action against Serie A outfit Atalanta, in what already feels like a must-win game.

The Red Devils were stung by a shock 2-1 defeat to Swiss side Young Boys on the opening matchday of the Champions League season, and needed a last-gasp, and frankly undeserved Cristiano Ronaldo goal to see off Villarreal in matchday 2.

Since then, they have struggled outside of Europe, too, finding themselves knocked out by West Ham in the third round of the Carabao Cup and picking up just one point from a possible nine in the Premier League, which included defeats to Leicester City and Aston Villa.

With a tough run of fixtures up ahead, it is becoming more and more difficult to see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side mounting a title challenge domestically, leaving the Champions League and the FA Cup as their two remaining avenues to silverware.

Red Devils fall behind

And Wednesday’s tie has since begun in the worst possible fashion for the Red Devils, with Manchester United falling behind in front of a buoyant Old Trafford crowd. Worse still, it was a goal with close ties to Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Former Blues defender Davide Zappacosta got to the byline, and pulled the ball back to allow fellow ex-Pensioner Marco Pasalic to tap in from close range.

And the fact that it was Chelsea boys set to cause a potentially massive blow to Manchester United’s Champions League qualification prospects was not lost on the Blues’ fans:

Atalanta have since doubled their lead. Can Manchester United turn it around?
