Chelsea took on Manchester United on Saturday in the first Premier League game of the day.
Chelsea headed into today’s game joint top of the league along with Manchester City and Liverpool.
Maurizio Sarri’s side were undefeated in the league this season, winning six and drawing two.
United, however, had already lost three this season in the league and have a dismal defensive record.
Chelsea control the first half
The first 45 saw Chelsea have the better of the chances.
The Blues controlled the midfield and United would invite some pressure on to themselves.
Jose Mourinho’s side did have one big chance in the first half that saw Romelu Lukaku head Luke Shaw’s cross over.
However, Chelsea would eventually break the deadlock in the 21st minute.
Paul Pogba would fail to mark Antonio Rudiger from a corner who’s header would put Chelsea 1-0 up.
Alonso stays down for Chelsea
The second half, however, would see Manchester United start much brighter.
The Red Devils would actually come out and attack Chelsea and they would be rewarded with a goal.
After several shots and deflections, the ball would fall to Anthony Martial who would convert his strike making it 1-1.
During the build-up to Martial’s goal, Marcos Alonso would remain down on the floor inside Chelsea’s six-yard box.
It was clear Alonso wanted the ref to bring the game to a holt to treat his injury.
However, the ref did not and Alonso would still be curled in a ball as Martial equalised.
Martial would then add a second in the 72nd minute to give United a 2-1 lead.
Ross Barkley’s 96th-minute goal would spare Chelsea a defeat. However, if not for Alonso, the Blues could well have won this game.
As a result, many fans have taken to Twitter to slate Alonso for his actions leading up to the goal.
Unless your leg is broke, you don’t stay down on the pitch when you’re defending in your own box. Alonso cost them that goal. Get up, man!!

When Anthony Martial scored, Marcos Alonso was lying on the floor in the 6-yard box…

United’s goal was Marcos Alonso’s fault. He should stand back to cover Martial #CHEMUN

i prefer a donkey in our defence than marcos alonso

It’s poor from Marcos Alonso. You play through the ‘pain’ & then go down once the threat has been averted. Instead, he tries to con the ref & ultimately is at fault for Utd’s goal.

Marcos Alonso probably should have decided to defend instead of fake an injury there #CHEMUN

Is Marcos Alonso complaining about that? It was not a head injury, the ref has no need to stop the game, United were in every right to continue playing and stick the ball in the net. If he stayed on his feet rather than feigning injury he may have prevented a goal.

At some point you have to notice the ref ain’t blowing and get to your feet though. Marcos Alonso just left his men for dead there

Message to Marcos Alonso: Unless your leg is literally falling off, you can’t fall over and stop defending until the sequence is over!!!…it’s basic!!! #CHEMUN
