Both legs of Chelsea’s Champions League quarter final with Porto will be played in Seville

UEFA have informed Chelsea and Porto today that both legs of their Champions League quarter final will take place at the Estadio Ramon Sanchez-Pizjaun in Seville.

The original plan was for Chelsea to travel to Portugal for the game on April 7th, before hosting Porto at Stamford Bridge on April 13th.

However, UEFA have decided to move the tie due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and so far it is the only tie to have been moved. The round of 16 saw both Liverpool vs RB Leipzig move to Budapest and Borussia Monchengladbach and Manchester City’s tie was also moved to Hungary.

The UK remains on Portugal’s red list of places to travel and has banned flights from the UK and Brazil and travellers must quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.

Portugal was on the UK’s red list, which would have required a 10-day hotel quarantine, but it was removed from the list on March 19th.

BUCHAREST, ROMANIA – FEBRUARY 23: Olivier Giroud of Chelsea scores their side’s first goal during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 match between Atletico Madrid and Chelsea FC at National Arena on February 23, 2021 in Bucharest, Romania. Chelsea have of course already played in the stadium this season, when Olivier Giroud scored all four goals in a 4-0 win back in the group stages. In doing so he became the oldest player to score a hat trick in the Champions League in what was arguably the finest night of Frank Lampard’s reign.

Giroud also scored a fantastic overhead kick in the first leg against Atletico Madrid and will be hopeful of being involved for Chelsea as they continue their European adventure.
