Borussia Dortmund set fee for Erling Haaland this summer

Erling Haaland

Big Spenders

ESPN are reporting that Borussia Dortmund have set the fee for their Norwegian superstar Erling Haaland, and potential suitors are going to need deep pockets if they want to prize him away this summer.

Haaland moved to Dortmund from FC Salzburg in January 2020 and has scored 32 goals in 31 games this season, including 10 in the Champions League, making him one of the most sought-after players on the planet.

ESPN reveal that sources have told them that €180/£154 million is the price they would be prepared to accept.

News on the price is likely to act as a warning for clubs considering making a move for the player, however he does have a £65 million buy-out clause in his contract next year, so this summer represents the time to cash in on their asset should they want to.

We are of course in the midst of a pandemic and clubs’ finances have been majorly affected by it, so it seems clubs will need to weigh up how much they believe he is worth to them and how much they are prepared to pay in order to sign Haaland.

Understandably there are few clubs who could afford that fee, but that hasn’t stopped major European clubs being linked.

Manchester City look like they might move on from Sergio Aguero and will likely be looking for a striker in the summer and are one of the sides linked.

However, Real Madrid and Barcelona have also been linked as have Manchester United and Chelsea.

This is likely to be a story that will fill the back pages throughout the summer, but it is clear that whoever ends up signing him, or if he stays, their team will be all the better for it.
