Barcelona star shuts down summer exit links

A key member of the defensive setup at La Liga giants Barcelona has, on Thursday, moved to clarify his future.

The player in question? Jules Kounde.

For those not aware, the subject of defender Kounde’s plans for next season have taken their place front and centre in the Spanish media headlines across the week to date.

This comes amid surprise reports that the Frenchman, just a year on from sealing a dream move to the Camp Nou, has set his sights on a summer exit.

Having allegedly become frustrated with boss Xavi Hernandez’s insistence on utilising him at right-back, Kounde, as per Diario Sport, is ready to seek out a new club, to return to his preferred role as a central defender.

If the latest comments on the part of the former Sevilla star himself are anything to go by, however, then those of a Barca persuasion desperate for Kounde to stay put need not fret.

In a post on his official Twitter account, Kounde revealed that he has not asked for a move away from Catalunya, before reiterating his intention to stay put:

‘To make it clear: at no time did I ask to leave, so I’m not going anywhere.’
