Barcelona see deadline day bid rejected as defender set to leave

Xavi’s side remain active until the end

Barcelona have seen a late move for World Cup star Sofyan Amrabat rejected as they look to test Fiorentina’s resolve on transfer deadline day, with the player keen on a move to Camp Nou.

Xavi’s side have been linked with a move for the Moroccan midfielder all January, but it had previously been reported that he would not be allowed to leave this transfer window.

Nonetheless, the Blaugrana made an initial offer that would see him loaned to the club for the remainder of the season, and which would include an option to buy the player for 40m euros at the end of the loan spell should he have impressed.

However, this has been knocked back by Fiorentina, who are looking for a guaranteed fee, even though the player has skipped training in a bid to push a move to Catalonia through in the dying hours of deadline day.

The Spanish giants, however, are unable to offer any guaranteed fee, with reports that ”LaLiga is preventing them from offering a loan with obligation” as the club still tread a financial tightrope.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are also considering a move for Manchester United attacker Anthony Elanga following the injury to Ousmane Dembele, with the Swedish attacker the subject of several loan proposals over the transfer window so far.

Additionally, former Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin is set to cut short his time with Xavi’s side, with the right-back on the verge of joining Sporting Lisbon for the remainder of the season just six months after arriving at Camp Nou.

The Spaniard is out of contract in the summer, and there have been no signs that his deal will be renewed at his boyhood club, meaning that he could become a free agent in six months time.
