As per a report from Francesc Aguilar of Mundo Deportivo, La Liga champions Barcelona are considering a summer move for Lyon left-back Ferland Mendy.
Mendy, a 23-year-old left-back who can also play on the wing, made the move to the Parc Olympique Lyonnais from Le Havre in the summer of 2017.
And the gifted stopper has since gone on to establish himself as not only one of Lyon’s key men, but one of the finest performers in all of French football.
The attack-minded left-back possesses an impressive combination of physical and technical attributes, with his superb early-season performances having seen Mendy rewarded with his first cap for France in November.
In fact, so impressive was the Lyon star during his side’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Manchester City late last year, that fans of Arsenal took to Twitter in numbers to suggest that their side make Mendy’s signing a priority:
Encore une fois @Arsenal sign Ferland Mendy 🙏🔥

Barcelona bid incoming?
As per the aforementioned report from Francesc Aguilar of Mundo Deportivo, though, it is in fact Spanish champions Barcelona who appear to be leading the race for the Frenchman’s services.
The Blaugrana are known to be on the lookout for a backup and potential successor to Jordi Alba this summer, with Mendy having seemingly been identified as the ideal candidate.
As such, the board of the Catalan giants appear ready to sanction a summer offer for the 23-year-old:
El Barça ha podido constatar la ausencia de buenos laterales en el mercado. Valverde pedía uno experto.con urgencia porque ve verde a Juan Miranda. No se lo han podido lograr.en enero
Ahora la apuesta será Ferland Mendy.
