Arsenal’s financial troubles explained/Contrasts with Tottenham & Liverpool

Arsenal’s 2019 transfer budget

It’s so far been a rather frustrating summer for Arsenal fans.

2018-19 finished on a bum note, as the Gunners lost the Europa League final to Chelsea.

Had Arsenal won that final, they’d have qualified for the Champions League.

Yet, in the end, Arsenal are now facing a third season in a row without top-tier European football.

As previously confirmed by BBC reporter David Ornstein, Arsenal’s summer transfer budget has been significantly hit by their lack of Champions League football.

It’s believed Arsenal only have around 40 million pounds to spend on new players this summer.

Arsenal’s financial troubles explained

The excellent Twitter account, Swiss Ramble, have investigated Arsenal’s financial problems on Monday morning.

Why are Arsenal struggling to spend significant sums of money when the club has posted profits for 16 seasons straight?

As explained by Swiss Ramble, several factors are affecting Arsenal’s ability to spend.

Firstly, the club no longer sell assets like they used to. Secondly, the lack of Champions League money is now finally starting to prove telling.

In addition, some of Arsenal’s previous financial advantages over their rivals appear to have slowed up, such as revenues from their stadium, debt concerns and commercial deals.

Liverpool & Tottenham

Another factor affecting Arsenal is that while they struggle financially, rivals, including Liverpool and Tottenham, are thriving.

The likes of Liverpool and Tottenham have been raking in cash from player sales and their football activities.
