Arsenal have ‘genuine interest’ in Manchester United target as Gunners eye up fourth summer signing

The Gunners could steal a march on their Premier League rivals

Arsenal have a genuine interest in Manchester United transfer target Jeremie Frimpong this summer as they look to continue overhauling their squad before the new season begins.

Having qualified for the Champions League for the first time since 2017, Mikel Arteta and Edu Gaspar have wasted no time in strengthening their side to compete across all fronts after missing out on the Premier League title last season in the final month of the campaign.

They have already confirmed a move for former Chelsea attacker Kai Havertz, while they have also agreed deals for West Ham captain Declan Rice in a £105m deal as well as a £40m move for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber, with the pair expected to join the club ahead of their pre-season tour of the USA.

They are not ready to stop there, though, and are eyeing up yet another defensive addition before the end of the summer transfer window after having been linked to Joao Cancelo, Sacha Boey, Benjamin Heinrichs and Ivan Fresneda in recent weeks.

Now, as per Football London, the latest name linked with a move to the club is none other than Bayer Leverkusen fullback and Manchester United target Frimpong, who has long been linked with a move to join compatriot Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.

They report that though the Gunners have ‘genuine interest’ in the defender, ‘any deal will be difficult to complete’ because the youngster wants to be guaranteed first team football on a regular basis, something that Arteta and co. may be hard pushed to offer him given Ben White’s emergence as no.1 choice at right-back last season.
