Arsenal hand trial to Mitchel Bergkamp, son of Gunners legend Dennis
Premier League giants Arsenal have opted to hand club legend Dennis Bergkamp’s son a chance to impress at the club, it has been confirmed.
Gunners opportunity
22-year-old Mitchel Bergkamp is a midfielder by trade.
The Dutchman has spent his career to date plying his trade in his home country, with Almere City.
Bergkamp made his way through the youth ranks of the 2nd-tier outfit, before breaking into the club’s first-team setup.
Having been deemed surplus to requirements this past summer, however, his contract was not renewed, with the midfielder, who can play in an orthodox central role or a more attacking berth, having since become available as a free agent.
Bergkamp, in turn, has since remained without a club.
But, as outlined above, the Dutchman’s prospects at the top level of the game do not appear to have completely passed just yet.
As confirmed by reliable Goal.com reporter Charles Watts, Arsenal have taken Bergkamp on trial, in a bid to gauge the talents of the 22-year-old.
He has spent the last week training as part of Steve Bould’s U23 setup, as the Gunners’ drive to revamp their reserve outfit continues.
It now remains to be seen whether Bergkamp does enough to sufficiently impress Bould and co., though Watts notes that the midfielder’s experience at senior level could prove an ‘appealing’ addition to a particularly youthful U23 side:
Dennis Bergkamp’s son, Mitchel, has been at London Colney working with the Arsenal U23s. He is currently a free agent.

‘Arsenal feels…’
Bergkamp jr., meanwhile, has certainly made no secret of his affinity for Arsenal in the past.
Speaking during an interview with ELF Voetbal last year, the former Almere man was drawn on his father’s playing days, as well as his own personal connection to the Gunners.
And Bergkamp went on to label Arsenal ‘home’:
‘My father also played for Internazionale and Ajax, two wonderful clubs, but Arsenal feels like home.’
The midfielder continued:
‘Whether I choose the Emirates or Highbury? I would have preferred to play at Highbury. There are the memories of everything my father has done for the club.’
