Arsenal headed into the match knowing they needed a win to keep pace with Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.
City began the day top of the league by a point with a game in hand, as well as then having a clash with Everton at 2 pm, which they won to stretch the gap to four points.
Brighton, meanwhile, were looking to climb into the Europa League places ahead of Tottenham, who were beaten by Aston Villa on Saturday.
At the time of writing, the score remains deadlocked at 0-0 after 45 minutes of action.
Martin Odegaard nearly gave Arsenal the lead 15 minutes in with an effort very similar to his goal vs Newcastle but this one went just wide.
Arsenal continued to have the better chances in the first half, with Trossard and Gabriel Jesus coming close.
One man who has been very quite vs Brighton on Sunday is Bukayo Saka.
The Englishman has 13 league goals this season but has just one goal and one assist in his last eight outings.
