AC Milan set sights on Chelsea’s Tiemoue Bakayoko

As per a report from the reliable Gianluca Di Marzio, Serie A outfit AC Milan are keen on the signature of Chelsea midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko.

Struggles

Bakayoko, a 23-year-old defensive midfielder, made the move to Stamford Bridge last summer for £40 million, following a breakout campaign during Monaco’s shock Ligue 1 title-winning season in 2016/17.

However, despite the Blues having beaten off the competition of a number of European heavyweights to secure his signature, and the French international having arrived in London with hefty expectations on his shoulders, Bakayoko’s debut campaign in England proved, overall, a major disappointment.

Though he managed a respectable 24 Premier League starts, the Rennes youth product ultimately flattered to deceive, often looking lost at the base of Chelsea’s midfield while showcasing both a rashness out of possession and clumsiness on the ball.

San Siro bound?

As such, there have unsurprisingly already been widespread claims that Bakayoko could be on the move this summer, after just a solitary campaign in England.

And, as per the aforementioned report from reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio, one of the clubs expressing a serious interest in the midfielder’s signature are Italian outfit AC Milan.

Rossoneri boss Gennaro Gattuso has made it clear that he would like at least one addition in the middle of the park this summer, with Di Marzio’s report confirming that both Bakayoko and Red Bull Salzburg star Diadie Samassékou are being considered by the sleeping Italian giants.
