Croatia vs Nigeria live streaming: Match preview

The eighth match of the World Cup will be between Croatia and Nigeria at the Kaliningrad Stadium. The game will be the first affair between the two teams.

Croatia come into the tournament having only ever played against an African team once before – Cameroon who they beat 4-0. It is also the only World Cup game that they have won in their last 7 games at the tournament (D2L4)

The Super Eagles will come into the tournament as the youngest team with a strong majority making their World Cup debuts. One of the debutants, William Troost-Ekong, thinks this could be to their advantage:

“Many of us will be playing at the World Cup for the first time, but this may work in our favour, as we may be underrated and so might surprise some teams. We will play without fear”, he commented.

The Super Eagles come into the competition as the biggest population and plenty of pressure on their shoulders.

The Super Eagles will be donning the incredibly hyped and eye-catching green and white Nike kit. The viral kit hit record pre-sales and had people queuing around the block to get their hands on such a stylish ghetto kit.

Nigeria will look to enter the World Cup with a fresh young team unattached to poor World Cup record of the past where they have only 1 win in their last 12 matches. They will look to hit Croatia with directness and utilise the pace and power of their wingers.

Victor Moses will hug the touch line and stretch the pitch, while Alex Iwobi will look to go outside or drift inside to act as creator in a team where this is sorely lacking.

Ndidi will look to replicate his incredible club form by covering every blade of grass on the pitch pressuring Croatia’s formidable midfield. He will make sure Croatia don’t have much time on the ball to dictate the game whilst sweeping up attacks past the midfield.

Croatia will be looking to finally utilise what is considered a golden generation this summer.

Croatia will look to dominate the game through possession through their gifted midfield trio of Modric, Rakitic and Brozovic. They will seek gain control of the game through lots of triangles to avoid the athletic press of Ndidi, Mikel and Onazi.

Up-top Mario Mandzukic will be tirelessly running the channels and offering options to his gifted midfield who can find him.

Croatia’s midfield will also be looking to spread the play wide to Perisic who will stretch the pitch with his width. Perisic will look to take his fullback on with pace and trickery. Perisic known for twisting defenders will look to deliver a precise cross to immense target man Mandzukic with either one of his ambidextrous feet. Mandzukic whose movement will be a handful for Nigeria’s center back pairing will prove to be key for Croatia.

Croatia vs Nigeria is going to be an excellent affair, a spectacle of two contrasting styles of football, with the midfield being the main talking point.

Athletic vs Artistic. Dynamite vs Delicate. It will play part in what makes the World Cup so great. Don’t miss out!
