Antoine Semenyo gave Bournemouth the lead on Sunday in their Premier League clash with Manchester United, scoring against the Red Devils for the second time this season.

Semenyo was on target at Old Trafford in the reverse fixture, netting in a 3-0 win for Andoni Iraola’s side.

And he opened the scoring in the 23rd minute at the Vitality Stadium, pouncing on sloppy play from United, who may have felt aggrieved after Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams escaped a red card shortly before the goal.

Adams was shown a yellow card for a rash foul on Alejandro Garnacho, catching the Argentine around the ankle with his studs showing.

The decision was checked and cleared by VAR following a nervy wait for Adams and, from the subsequent free-kick, United contrived to lose possession to allow Semenyo to break the deadlock.

Patrick Dorgu was robbed of the ball on the left flank by Adam Smith, whose ball into the box was cleverly laid off by Evanilson for Semenyo to lash beyond Andre Onana.

It was a goal that summed up United’s season, and the type of mistake they cannot afford to make on Thursday when they face an Athletic Bilbao side that will undoubtedly press in a very similar manner to Bournemouth.
