Premier League round-up: Semenyo bids farewell with late winner vs Spurs as Brentford climb to fifth and nine-man Everton draw with Wolves

There was plenty of drama on a bumper Wednesday of Premier League action with the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa and Everton all in action.

Spurs travelled to Bournemouth in desperate search for a win to ease the pressure on Thomas Frank, while the Cherries were themselves looking to end an 11-game winless run.

Surprise title challenger Villa, meanwhile, were at Crystal Palace looking to close the gap on Arsenal at the top and end their own hoodoo against the Eagles, having failed to win any of their six games versus Oliver Glasner as Palace boss.

Brentford had the chance to catapult themselves firmly into the European picture against fellow surprise package Sunderland, with Everton hosting bottom side Wolves.

Read on to see how all four games unfolded and check out our full match reports for the headline Premier League games:

Bournemouth 3-2 Tottenham

Antoine Semenyo scored a stunning late winner in what is set to be his final Bournemouth game to beat Tottenham 3-2 at the Vitality Stadium.

Struggling Spurs made the perfect start on the South Coast when Xavi Simons’ backheel flick found Mathys Tel out wide, before the Frenchman drove inside a fired what had looked like a weak shot into the bottom corner, raising question marks about goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.

But their joy was short lived when on 22 minutes Bournemouth drew level when Evanlison’s fine header from Marcus Tavernier’s cross flew into the back of the net, before Eli Kroupi Junior completed the turnaround from close range before the first half drew to a close.

The visitors thought they had a penalty to draw level in the second half after Mickey van de Ven went down in the box but, after a pitchside review, the penalty decision was overturned.

But Joao Palhinha finally drew Spurs level with less than 15 minutes to play with a simply sensational bicycle kick.

But it was outgoing winger Semenyo who would ultimately steal the headlines with a peach o0f a finish from outside the box, showcasing exactly why Manchester City are set to pay £65million to land his services to win the game for the Cherries and pile even more pressure on Frank.

Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa

Aston Villa missed the chance to close the gap on Premier League leaders Arsenal after being held to a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.

Ollie Watkins went closeest in the first half when his chipped finish was thwarted by Dean Henderson before another effort was blocked well by Maxence Lacroix.

Palace grew into the game in the second half and somehow didn’t take the lead after a goal-line scramble which involved a brilliant Lucas Digne block from close range.

Villa turned the screw in the closing stages and were inches away from going ahead when Watkins headed against the post.

Brentford 3-0 Sunderland

Brentford climbed up to fifth in the table with a 3-0 victory over fellow European challengers Sunderland.

Thiago, fresh off a hat-trick at Everton, netted his 15th goal of the season when a simple long ball from Vitaly Janelt found the way of the Brazilian, who rounded Robin Roefs to put Brentford ahead.

And the in-form striker was on the scoresheet again after the break after Kevin Schade’s header after hitting the post was turned in to double the hosts’ advantage.

The Bees were firmly in command a few minutes later when the ball fell to Yehor Yarmoliuk who fired low to get the hosts’ third.

Everton 1-1 Wolves

Nine-man Everton held on in the closing stages to draw 1-1 with Wolves, who extended their unbeaten run to three games to climb onto seven points.

Everton found the breakthrough after 17 minutes when Tim Ireogbunam’s shot inside the box following a corner was deflected in off Michael Keane.

Highly-rated youngster Matheus Mane scored his second goal in as many games to equalise for the Premier League’s bottom side, the 18-year-old netting with a stunning finish.

Keane went from goalscoring hero to zero with seven minutes to play when he was shown a straight red card in bizarre fashion for pulling Tolu Arokodare’s hair when both were going up for a header.

The Toffees were then down to nine men when Jack Grealish was shown a second yellow card, with both bookings coming for dissent to hand a huge chance for the struggling visitors to grab their first away win of the season.
