Crystal Palace 1-1 Fulham: Cairney earns Cottagers a point

Tom Cairney came off the bench to hit a superb equaliser as Fulham earned a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace.

In a low key, poor quality Premier League game, the hosts looked to have won it when Jean-Philippe Mateta produced a trademark header.

But Fulham were much the better side after the break and levelled when Cairney bent in from the edge of the area.

Full-back Timothy Castagne went close to a winner for Fulham in stoppage-time but his close-range shot was brilliantly saved by Dean Henderson.

Palace are close to signing Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson and do look short of attacking options.

Mateta’s header was excellent but the Eagles were short of ideas as the game wore on and were holding on at the end for a point. Palace are now winless across their last five home Premier League games.

With captain Marc Guehi set for another month of transfer speculation, and manager Oliver Glasner among names being touted for the vacancy at Chelsea, this could be another unsettling period for Palace.

Nevertheless they do sit in the top half, a place above Fulham in ninth.
