Chelsea have seen a bid exceeding £42million for Borussia Dortmund winger Jamie Gittens rejected, according to reports.
The 20-year-old England Under-21 international is reportedly open to joining the Blues, with a long-term, seven-year contract already in place.
However, Dortmund and Chelsea remain far apart in their valuations of the player.
Despite Gittens not being viewed as a tactical fit under current Dortmund boss Niko Kovac, who took charge in February, the German club are standing firm on their asking price.
This latest setback casts uncertainty over whether Chelsea can finalise a deal for Gittens ahead of Tuesday evening’s registration deadline for the Club World Cup.
While the London club haven’t ruled out returning with another offer after the cut-off, time is running out to get the winger involved in the tournament.
Chelsea are also considering other attacking options, with Manchester United’s Alejandro Garnacho and West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus both under consideration as alternatives.

Elsewhere, the Blues have pulled out of talks with AC Milan over goalkeeper Mike Maignan. The Serie A side have set a price tag of £25m for the France international, who has one year left on his contract.
Chelsea, however, value the soon-to-be 30-year-old at roughly half that amount and have decided to look elsewhere.
Gittens, a product of Manchester City’s youth system, joined Dortmund in 2020. He broke into the Bundesliga side’s first team in 2022 and enjoyed a breakout campaign last season, netting eight goals in 32 league appearances.
Dortmund have also reinforced their own ranks this week by signing another young English talent Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland.
