Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim was relieved to see his side be competitive against one of the Premier League’s top sides in Arsenal.

The Red Devils could only manage a draw against their age-old foes but had plenty of chances to win the game at Old Trafford.

Bruno Fernandes buried a free-kick before half-time to send the Theatre of Dreams into raptures before Declan Rice scored in the second half to level the game.

And Amorim was clearly pleased with the improvement in performance following the recent results for United.

Speaking after the game, he said:Β “It helps when you score a goal and don’t suffer [conceding first], you can feel the energy in the stadium.

“In this moment, we try to win games, be compact. We were so near in the second half to score a goal.

“We were really competitive and I think that is important. We pushed forward and not back. We had some situations to win the game. Arsenal put a lot of men inside the box to win and I think Alejandro Garnacho did a complete game and that helped us a lot.”

Defender Diogo Dalot made his 200th appearance for the club, and although he was proud of the milestone, he was more bothered about the status of the club.

He believes the players cannot stop until they are back at the top, and he is keen to keep fighting under Amorim to make that happen.

Dalot said: “When you sign for a big club like this, you want to live every moment. To achieve this milestone, it was a proud moment for me and my family.

“I am really happy with the journey and hopefully, there is many more to come. I’m really happy that I am here because I want to fight for it and we cannot be satisfied until we are at the top again.

“If we can control games and win 3-0, I would be more than happy but at the moment we need to find that way.”
