Gonzalo Garcia scored in the third minute of stoppage time as Real Madrid beat Leganes in a five-goal thriller in the Copa del Rey semi-finals.

Real had let slip a two-goal lead against the LaLiga strugglers after Luka Modric and Endrick’s goals but 2o-year-old Garcia stepped off the bench to head home the winner at the death.

Veteran Modric scored a rare goal in the first half as the 39-year-old burst through two defenders to poke home Rodrygo’s pass for the opener at Estadio Municipal Butarque.

And the 20-time Copa del Rey winners looked in control when Brazlian wonderkid Endrick slotted home, fresh off notching two in the previous round against Celta Vigo.

But just before half-time, Juan Cruz pulled one back from the spot after Ramon Rodriguez, making his first start for the senior side, clumsily fouled inside the box.

Leganes were surprisingly level on the hour mark when Cruz scored his second with a neat finish inside the box.

But just when extra-time looked increasingly likely, up stepped Garcia to head home Brahim Diaz’s perfectly weighted cross.
