England manager Thomas Tuchel believes Harry Kane deserves to win the Ballon d’Or and would have no problem with picking the Bayern Munich star for the 2030 World Cup.
Kane is the odds-on favourite to win the most illustrious individual prize in football, which will be awarded at a ceremony in London on October 26.
The former Tottenham star scored 61 goals in helping Bayern to a Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double last season, before finding the net six times as England reached the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup.
England return to action on Saturday in their UEFA Nations League opener against world champions Spain on Saturday, and, speaking ahead of that game, Tuchel has thrown his support behind Kane’s candidacy for the award.
Asked in an interview with ITV if Kane is his choice for the prize, Tuchel replied: “After this season, yeah.
“Seventy-plus goals, three titles with Bayern Munich, semifinals at the World Cup and in the Champions League.
“He’s getting better and better. I think he added a level of physicality to his match.
“He’s just so committed to high press and so committed to being involved in every part of the match. Be it in deep build-up, be it in finishing, be it in build-up play in the middle block, be it in defending. It’s just the full package.”
Should Kane win the Ballon d’Or, he would become the first Englishman to do so since Michael Owen in 2001.
Kane will be 36 when the 2030 World Cup, which will be held in Spain, Portugal, Morocco with centenary games held in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, kicks off.
But Tuchel does not see that as a barrier to him being involved in a fourth World Cup finals.
“Yeah, no problem. Age is age,” Tuchel said. “It doesn’t matter. It’s only about quality, and he has a long way to go.”
