FPL gameweek 34 is the final blank of the season, and it’s a huge chance for Free Hit managers to make up ground in one go. With six teams out, the aim is simple: attack the best fixtures, trust the chip strategy, and don’t be afraid to lean into a couple of differentials. Here’s the version I’ll likely be going with.
Table of Contents
Goalkeepers:
David Raya
Raya is the safest goalkeeper route on this Free Hit. There isn’t a standout clean sheet banker this week, so backing the best defensive team feels like the right play. Arsenal have the strongest clean sheet odds, and Raya gives you direct access to that. He’s not exciting, but on a one-week Free Hit, reliability matters more than chasing chaos.
Backup: Robin Roefs.
Defence:
Nordi Mukiele
Mukiele is a tidy one-week punt. Nottingham Forest’s weaker side is the area Sunderland can target, and Mukiele offers a bit of attacking upside too. He’s also useful for DEFCON, which gives him a decent floor even if the clean sheet doesn’t land.
Gabriel
No real explanation needed. Gabriel is the best defender to own in the game. Arsenal have the clean sheet appeal, and Gabriel gives you goal threat against a side that concede from centre backs, bonus potential and security all in one.
Pedro Porro
Porro is the differential of the back line. Spurs may not feel safe defensively, but he’s on set-pieces and Wolves are vulnerable down his side. On a Free Hit, that upside is worth chasing.
Virgil van Dijk
Van Dijk is all about set-piece threat and reliability. Palace aren’t a team to fear anymore, and Liverpool should still control the game. He’s a steady premium defender who can still haul.
Midfield:
Bruno Fernandes
Fernandes remains one of the best midfield picks in the game. He’s central to everything Manchester United do, on set-pieces, and still chasing the assist record. On a Free Hit, he’s almost impossible to leave out. Best captaincy option.
Matheus Cunha
Cunha offers a different kind of upside. His shot volume and creativity make him a strong mid-priced route into United’s attack, and Brentford at home isn’t a bad fixture at all.
Mohamed Salah
Salah is the emotional pick and maybe the smartest one too. Palace at home gives him one more big stage, and he’s still producing enough to justify a final ride on the king.
Iliman Ndiaye
Ndiaye gives you a nice mix of floor and ceiling. He’s on penalties, brings DEFCON, and has genuine open-play threat. That makes him a very useful Free Hit midfield slot.
Forwards:
Jarrod Bowen
Bowen is one of the best one-week forward picks around. He’s on set-pieces, takes penalties and can even chip in with DEFCON. In a blank week, that makes him gold.
Ollie Watkins
Watkins is in form at the right time. Three league goals in three and six in five overall says plenty. He’s one of the clearest forward picks on the slate.
Free Hit XI :
Raya
Nordi Mukiele, Pedro Porro, Virgil van Dijk, Gabriel
Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha, Mohamed Salah, Iliman Ndiaye
Jarrod Bowen, Ollie Watkins
Other options :
If you want to switch things up, there are plenty of strong alternatives. In goal: Hermansen, Pickford. In defence: Tarkowski, Mavropanos. In midfield: Simons, Gakpo, Gibbs-White, Dewsbury-Hall, Wilson, Sarr, Up front: Šeško, Beto, Brobbey, Thiago, Solanke.
This is basically my full shortlist for the Free Hit, so mix and match the names and you should be in great shape for a strong Gameweek 34.
