James Maddison will miss the rest of the season through injury, Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou has confirmed.

Maddison was on target last week as Spurs put one foot in the Europa League final with a 3-1 win over Bodo/Glimt in the first leg of their semi-final tie.

But the England attacking midfielder suffered a knee injury in that game and, ahead of the return leg in Norway, Postecoglou revealed Tottenham will not have Maddison available if they do indeed to progress to the final in Bilbao next month.

Speaking at a press conference, Postecoglou said: “Madders from the first leg. So he’s out. He’ll miss the rest of this season and disappointing for him.

“I’m disappointed for him because he’s been a real catalyst for us. He’ll miss out but that’s been the story of our season. Everyone else from the first leg has travelled and they’re ready to go.”

Son Heung-min has not travelled with the team having failed to recover from a foot injury that has kept him out since the first leg of the quarter-final with Eintracht Frankfurt.

But Dominic Solanke (thigh) is fit enough to be involved as Spurs aim to clinch a place in the final against either Manchester United or Athletic Bilbao.

“No [he hasn’t travelled],” Postecoglou said of Son. “Dom is fine and ready to go, he’s trained with the team.

“Disappointing for Sonny. He has progressed and he’s a possibility to get minutes at the weekend but he hasn’t trained with the team yet.”
