Europa League: Freiburg put one foot in last four with comfortable win over Celta Vigo
The Bundesliga side are in an excellent position.
Freiburg took a huge step towards the Europa League semi-finals as they eased to a 3-0 victory over Celta Vigo in the first leg of their quarter-final tie.
Julian Schuster’s men had already broken new ground by reaching the last eight of a European competition for the first time in their history.
And they can start to dream of an appearance in the last four after a superb performance at Europa-Park Stadion.
Vincenzo Grifo curled home the opener from just inside the area in the 10th minute, with Freiburg’s lead then doubled by Jan-Niklas Beste’s tap-in 22 minutes later.
Beste turned creator 13 minutes from time as his corner was headed home by Matthias Ginter.
The winner of this tie will play the victor of the quarter-final between Sporting Braga and Real Betis, who drew 1-1 on Wednesday.
