Achraf Hakimi came back to haunt former club Inter Milan before Desire Doue gave Paris Saint-Germain a commanding 2-0 lead in the Champions League final.

Hakimi left Inter for PSG in 2021, and he has been a standout performer for Luis Enrique’s men in their charge through the knockout rounds.

The Morocco international scored in both the quarter-finals and the semi-finals, and he completed the set in the 12th minute as PSG were rewarded for an aggressive start.

He rounded off an excellent PSG move as Vitinha split the defence with a perfectly placed pass to find the diagonal run of Doue, who showed great composure to turn and tee up Hakimi to slide into an empty net.

Hakimi did not celebrate his goal and made what appeared to be an apologetic gesture in the direction of the Inter fans behind the goal, with some applauding his respect for his former club.

There was no need for a muted celebration from Doue, however, as the teenager gave Inter a mountain to climb when his volley at the end of a superb PSG counter deflected off Federico Dimarco and beyond the helpless Yann Sommer eight minutes later.

Inter scored seven goals across the two legs of a remarkable semi-final with Barcelona to reach the final, and PSG’s ruthless early salvo left them needing a similar show of goalscoring prowess to have hope to turning the game around and reviving their hopes of lifting the trophy.
