Monday night’s match will be the first-ever meeting between these two nations in the Women’s European Championship. However, they have met previously in international football with the most recent matches finishing in a pair of 2-1 home wins in the 2019 World Cup Qualifiers. Italy have seriously underwhelmed in this competition and doesn’t really look like they have a win in them despite impressive pre-tournament form where they went unbeaten in 2022. Therefore, 101 Great Goals' prediction for this match is Italy 1 - 1 Belgium and is available at odds of 11/2.

Alternatively, you can bet on any Italy win at 23/20 against Belgium on Monday.

Or, back any win for Belgium at 11/5 here at the Academy Stadium in Manchester, England.

Match preview

Italy welcomes Belgium to the Academy Stadium in Manchester on Monday for the final match in Group D of the UEFA Women's Euro 2022.

The fate of these teams is somewhat out of their control. Regardless of the outcome here, a win for Iceland against France would see both Italy and Belgium exit the competition in the group stages.

While it may seem unlikely on paper for that to happen, France will win the group regardless of the outcome and have nothing to play for. Therefore, they are expected to play their second string to give some match sharpness to the rest of the squad as well as much-needed rest to the stars that have already qualified them.

In addition, should the match between Italy and Belgium finish in a stalemate, Iceland would qualify even if they fail to beat the French. Any draw would be enough to see them through as well as a defeat, should it only be by a one-goal margin and if they have more goals scored than Belgium at the close of play. This could make Iceland good value at 7/2 to qualify for the quarter-final stage from Group D despite starting the tournament as the group’s outsiders.

Italy’s path to the quarter-final stage from here is clear. They need to beat Belgium and hope Iceland fail to win against France. Due to the goal difference, any stalemate here would see Belgium finish above them regardless of the outcome of France v Iceland. This sees Italy as the second favourites at 11/8 behind Belgium to qualify for the quarter-final stage from Group D.

Belgium likewise would qualify if they win here and Iceland fails to beat France. A draw may also be enough for the Belgians but would need France to beat Iceland by at least two clear goals. If France wins by a one-goal margin while Belgium draw and outscore Iceland, Belgian Red Flames would still qualify. The Belgians are the favourites at evens to qualify for the quarter-final stage from Group D.

Valentina Bergamaschi Goalscorer. - Bergamaschi grabbed Italy’s equaliser around the hour mark of Thursday night’s 1-1 draw against Iceland. The 25-year-old Milan winger now has five goals for her country and is 11/1 to score the game’s opener on Monday. Or 4/1 to bag a goal at any time during the game against Belgium.

Arianna Caruso only lasted 45 minutes of Italy’s match against Iceland on Thursday. Whether due to injury or poor first-half performance, Caruso is expected to lose her starting place here to Barbara Bonansea (as pictured above), who assisted Italy’s equalising goal from the bench.
