Manchester United go head-to-head with Bayern Munich for budding French striker

Missing out on Dutch star Cody Gakpo has seen Manchester United keep their eyes firmly planed across the channel and are now linked with interest in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani

Manchester United remains on the hunt for a new center-forward at Old Trafford as the transfer saga rolls on into the January window under Erik ten Hag.

After missing out on Dutch stat Cody Gakpo in the wake of his move to bitter rivals Liverpool, and the fiasco that was the end of Cristiano Ronaldo’s second stint at the Theatre of Dreams, the Red Devils remain bereft of a true leading man in the number 9 role despite the existence of both Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.

But now, according to reports in French outlet L’Équipe (relayed by Get French Football News), United is on the trail of Eintracht Frankfurt striker Randal Kolo Muani.

The 24-year-old former FC Nantes center-forward has enjoyed a fantastic 2022-23 campaign for both club and country thus far, with five goals and nine assists in fourteen Bundesliga appearances for Die Adler this term while also finding the back of the net on two occasions in the Champions League.

It was his unanticipated call-up into Didier Deschamps’ France squad after RB Leipzig star man Christopher Nkunku was injured during pre-World Cup training for Les Bleus that has brought him into the collective consciousness outside of Germany’s borders, however, with Kolo Muani coming off the bench to great effect for France during the knockout stage of the competition.

He nearly also turned national hero in the dying seconds of the World Cup final only for his rasping effort from close range against Aston Villa’s Emi Martínez to be heroic kick-saved to force a penalty shootout that would see Argentina ultimately come out on top.

That could leave the door open for Bundesliga Rekordmeister Bayern Munich who is also reportedly keen on the Frenchman but is eyeing up a possible summer move for the Frankfurt forward, which could suit the player while offering Bayern the true center-forward they have been looking for.
