Lorient v PSG: Line-ups, stats and preview

Preview for Lorient v PSG

Luis Enrique has praised the versatility of his PSG players as he prepares to welcome back two key members of the all-conquering side that clinched the quadruple last season.

PSG have been hit by a raft of injuries so far this season but have continued to win games, Saturday’s 3-0 success at Brest taking them back to the top of Ligue 1.

That, according to Luis Enrique, is down to the ability of his players to produce top-level performances out of their usual positions.

The former Spain and Barcelona coach said: “In the last 15 years, mobility and the ability to play in several positions have been very important. We see it: every time there are injuries, players occupy these places in a positive way. It’s very important to me. I can appreciate it in the majority of my players. It’s very positive.

“It is important to get the player out of his comfort zone. When we ask a player where he likes to play, he says here or there. But to be important to the team, you have to open your mind so that you can find another rewarding role. We are an example of a team that changes positions throughout the game.”

PSG go to Lorient tomorrow night looking to maintain their unbeaten run which now stretches to six games in all competitions. Luis Enrique is demanding no let-up and hopes they can replicate last season’s achievements.

He added: “We don’t think about what we’ve done, but about what we still want to do, namely winning trophies. The time is to be ambitious and win all the trophies again.”

On paper, Lorient should not pose much of a threat. They sit in 16th place in Ligue 1 following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Angers but Luis Enrique was predictably quick to praise the Breton club.

“We must think about what we can control, and it is only the meeting in Lorient that we are interested in today,” he said. “It will be a difficult match.”

Lorient may be decent going forward but their defensive vulnerability makes them a target for a PSG side with attacking power in abundance.
