Everton hoped to celebrate David Moyes’ return with a win over Aston Villa on Wednesday.
The Toffees turned to Moyes after sacking Sean Dyche last week with the club having won just one of their last 11 league games, a run that had seen them slip a point from the relegation zone.
They didn’t find it easy against a Villa side who had won six of their last nine games in all competitions.
