‘It wasn’t easy’: Cristian Romero opens up on Tottenham struggles
Cristian Romero joined Tottenham from Serie A outfit Atalanta over the summer of 2021.
Spurs made a number of signings in that window, but it fair to say that Romero is one of the few that actually worked out.
The Argentine is excelling in Antonio Conte’s backline and is proving himself to be one of the best central defenders in the Premier League right now.
It wasn’t always going so well for the South American, though. In a recent interview with The Athletic, Romero admitted that he loved life at Tottenham:
“I love life here,” Romero, said reflecting on a momentous eight months since arriving on loan from Atalanta — in a deal that will be made permanent in the summer for £42.5 million.
However, the stopper then went on to speak about his struggles when he first arrived in England: “Right at the start it wasn’t easy.
“I’ve always had that spirit, desire and aggression. If I ever lost that, I’d have a problem.”

Aston Villa vs Tottenham
Romero’s next outing for Spurs is expected to come vs Aston Villa.
Tottenham take on Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa in the day’s late kick-off on Saturday.
Spurs head into the match having won five of their last six league games, several of which by considerable margins, including their most recent 5-1 hammering of Newcastle United.
Said win saw the Lilywhites climb up to 4th in the Premier League, level on points with Arsenal who have a game in hand.
As a result, the clash with Villa, who have lost three of their last five, is a must-win for Antonio Conte and co.
