Joshua Kimmich will miss Wednesday night’s Champions League game with Arsenal due to a family bereavement, Bayern Munich announced this morning.
The Bayern captain was absent from training yesterday and won’t be considered for the fixture with the Gunners at the Allianz Arena.
A club statement read: “Due to a passing in his immediate family, Joshua Kimmich is not in the squad today for the match against Arsenal.
“On behalf of the family, we ask that his privacy and grief be respected, and that further inquiries and reporting be refrained from.
“We send our deepest condolences to Joshua Kimmich and his loved ones.”
In Kimmich’s absence, Aleksandar Pavlovic and Tom Bischof could form the central midfield pairing for the Bundesliga leaders.
Bayern boss Kompany struggling to be fit for Arsenal clash
Kimmich’s absence continues a disrupted build-up to the game for Bayern, who are without star midfielder Michael Olise through suspension following his red card against Viking in their last Champions League outing.
Coach Vincent Kompany missed Tuesday’s media conference as he battles to shrug off a virus with his assistant Aaron Danks speaking to the press.
Danks said: ”Vincent has a virus. It’s important that he rests. He’s at home resting. We take it day by day. We’re in constant communication. He’ll play his role and part in the game – whether that’s at the Allianz Arena or not, we’ll have to wait and see.
“It has affected his legs at times, he found some pain in his legs. It’s just a virus. The doctors know way more than I do. The most important thing is that he rests and takes the time he needs. I don’t know whether that will be tomorrow or 2-3 days. We’re taking it day by day.
“For me, not much changes. I plan the training sessions every day. Obviously we miss Vincent, but we have a strong coaching team, we know what needs to be done. We need to stay calm and keep the players’ energy high so they are ready tomorrow.”
