Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko has vowed to “fully dedicate” himself to recovering from his ongoing shin problem after being ruled out of Slovenia’s upcoming matches.
The 23-year-old joined United from RB Leipzig last August in a deal worth £66.3m, and scored 12 goals during his first season at Old Trafford, but his campaign ended prematurely after he suffered a shin problem in May.
The injury also prevented him from featuring in any of United’s pre-season friendlies, although he returned to action at the start of the new campaign and played in each of their first six matches.
Sesko scored twice during that run before experiencing a recurrence of the shin pain, ruling him out of Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Fulham.
“I am very sorry that I will have to miss the next matches of the national team,” Sesko posted on Instagram.
“I have always played for Slovenia and will always play with heart and pride. The most important thing now is to fully dedicate myself to recovery.
“I am already working on getting back on the field as soon as possible and helping the national team and the club again.
“I believe in our boys, and I am sure that they will show the team spirit that has always adorned us this time.
“I can’t wait to be able to wear the jersey with the national emblem again and, until then, I will be Slovenia’s biggest fan.”
Sesko among four United players to miss international duty
Sesko is one of four United players who have withdrawn from international duty during the three-week break.
Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford have both pulled out of the England squad, while Karl Darlow will not join up with Wales.
United confirmed that each player will undergo an individual recovery programme while the club’s first team is not in action.
“Each of the players will be assessed and undergo individual recovery plans during the current three-week international break.”
