Alexander Isak says joining Liverpool from Newcastle last summer was an “easy decision” despite the difficult circumstances surrounding his transfer.
The Sweden striker completed a British-record £125m move to Anfield on deadline day in September 2025 after missing pre-season.
Isak had previously claimed promises made to him at Newcastle had been “broken”, but he insists he never regretted his decision to leave the club.
“Liverpool is a massive club, and everything about the club made it pretty clear,” Isak told BBC Sport.
“And the club’s ambition and the club’s will to get me in as well. It was a big part of it.”
The 26-year-old struggled for goals during his first season at Liverpool and suffered a leg break that kept him out from December until April.
Asked whether he ever regretted the move during that period, Isak said: “No, never. I would never think like that.”
Isak looking forward after injury
Isak made only 22 appearances for Liverpool last season, playing 1,032 minutes in total, but has already matched his previous Premier League tally of three goals after just four matches this season.
He says the experience of dealing with his long-term injury has helped him focus on the future rather than dwelling on what happened.
“[The leg break] was tough. Anyone who had a long injury would know,” Isak said.
“But on the other hand, when you’re in a good place and when you feel good, you don’t really tend to look back because it doesn’t really benefit you.
“So I’m just looking forward and feel really optimistic and excited about the season, and what it can bring to us.”
World Cup gave Isak timely boost
Isak scored once and provided three assists as Sweden reached the last 32 of the World Cup before being eliminated by France.
The tournament also gave him the chance to build his fitness and regain his rhythm after a frustrating campaign at club level.
“Playing for your country in a World Cup is a dream of most people,” Isak said.
“With the injuries last season, the World Cup was perfect. I had that period where I could play and gain rhythm and form.
“And, on top of that, it was a massive experience, so that was perfect to do and come back here for pre-season and to start the season.”
