Kylian Mbappe has fired Real Madrid into the lead less than 15 minutes into their Champions League opener against Inter Milan.
Mbappe had barely featured in the opening stages after a bright start from the visitors, but a mistake from former Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones was punished in clinical style.
Inter were on top after Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martinez forced Thibaut Courtois into saves, but their work was instantly undone at the Bernabeu.
Jones, making his first start in the Champions League since moving to Inter, played a wayward ball to Yan Bissek, who made a mess of trying to recover the ball as Mbappe sharply nipped in to get the ball to Brahim Diaz.
Diaz instantly gave the ball back to Mbappe through on goal – and the World Cup Golden Boot winner swept home the finish to put the hosts in front for his 71st Champions League goal.
It wasn’t long before Real were 2-0 up, with Federico Valverde capitalising on another Inter mistake to double their lead.
Goalkeeper Josep Martinez was far too slow on the ball and the Uruguayan nipped in to turn the ball into the back of the net as the hosts scored two without really having to do much.
