Former Leicester City and England strike Jamie Vardy has joined Burnley until the end of the season.
The 39-year-old signs for the Clarets having spent last term in Italy with Cremonese, who were relegated from Serie A last season.
Vardy, who netted 200 times for Leicester during a 13-year spell at the club and was part of the Premier League-winning side of 2016, arrives at Turf Moor with Burnley currently rooted to the bottom of the Championship following relegation from the top-flight last term.
Vardy experience ‘invaluable’
Burnley head coach Nicky Hayen described Vardy’s experience as invaluable, saying: “We are delighted to welcome Jamie to Burnley FC. His experience and leadership will be invaluable to our squad, and we believe he can make a significant impact on our campaign.
“Jamie has a proven track record, and we are looking forward to seeing him in a Claret shirt.”
On returning to England, Vardy said: “I’m really happy to now be here at Burnley FC.
“This club has a proper footballing history and passionate fans who deserve a team that represents them and their town.
“I can’t wait to get going on the pitch and help the team move in the right direction.”
Burnley fell to a 2-1 defeat to Bristol City yesterday, a result that extends their winless run in the second tier to five matches.
