Ederson breaks silence on failed Man United medical: ‘I honestly don’t know what happened’

Ederson has spoken out about the collapse of his transfer to Manchester United, which fell apart last month amid medical concerns.

The Brazil midfielder appeared set to be United’s first signing of the summer when the Red Devils agreed a deal with Atalanta in June.

But United subsequently pulled the plug on the transfer, leading Ederson to sign a new contract with the Serie A side.

United have since added extensively to their midfield, bringing in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, while they are also poised to sign Carlos Baleba from Brighton and Hove Albion.

Ederson, though, is still unsure why his move to Old Trafford did not come to pass.

“I honestly don’t know what happened. I always had interest from other clubs, and I could’ve gone to another English side,” Ederson said ahead of Atalanta’s Conference League play-off round tie with Hapoel Tel-Aviv.

“The tests went well, I don’t know what changed. I’ve been with Atalanta for four years and always played.

“I could’ve just waited to see what happened, but the great rapport with the club convinced me to stay and sign a new contract.

“I had lovely moments going to the World Cup with Brazil, and then… I still don’t know what happened to be honest.

“But the important thing is that I was able to deal with the situation, return with the right mentality and give my all to the club that gave me so much.

“I am still Ederson, everyone knows me here and what I can do, they know I will always give my all.”
