Blank Gameweek 34 in FPL is here, and this is the final blank of the season. With six teams not playing, this is where a Free Hit can really separate you from the pack. The template is useful, but the biggest gains now come from leaning into the best fixtures, the best roles, and a couple of smart differentials that most managers won’t own. If you’re looking for one-week upside, these are the five names I’d be targeting.
Table of Contents
Xavi Simons (6.5m)
Tottenham need a response, and if they’re going to get one away at Wolves, Simons is the player most likely to drive it. He’s already shown he can produce something special, and that wonder goal against Brighton is exactly the sort of spark Spurs have been missing. Wolves are there for the taking if Tottenham can impose themselves, and Xavi should be right at the heart of it as their main creator. On a Free Hit, this is exactly the kind of fixture you want to attack: a talented midfielder with real upside, in a match Spurs probably have to win. It feels like a proper one-week punt with ceiling.
Pedro Porro (5.1m)
Porro is one of those Free Hit picks that just makes sense. He’s still one of the most attacking full-backs around, he carries set-piece threat, and Wolves have obvious weakness down his side of the pitch. That’s the sort of match-up you want to target when you only have one week to make a difference. On a blank week Free Hit, you don’t need safety – you need players who can swing a game and Porro does exactly that. If Spurs are going to push Wolves back, he should be heavily involved. The active ownership isn’t especially high either, which only makes the upside more appealing.
Jarrod Bowen (7.7m)
Bowen remains one of the best one week captaincy-style picks in the game. West Ham need a result at home to Everton to keep the pressure on in the relegation battle, and Bowen is usually the man they trust in those moments. He’s on set-pieces, takes penalties, and has that rare forward profile where he can still pick up DEFCON points as well as attacking returns. That makes him a brilliant Free Hit target because he gives you multiple ways to score big. In a week where many forwards feel shaky, Bowen’s mix of responsibility and fixture appeal stands out a mile.
Nordi Mukiele (4.5m)
Mukiele is a really useful Free Hit defender, especially if you want a player with solid underlying numbers and a decent route to points even without a clean sheet. Averaging 9.14 DEFCON per 90, he’s not quite at the level of the elite magnets, but he’s still very usable. The main draw here is the fixture, though. Nottingham Forest offer a favourable match-up, and Sunderland can look to target the weaker side of their defence through Mukiele’s channel. On a one week Free Hit, that kind of positional edge matters. He may not be the flashiest name, but he’s a smart defender to slot in.
Ollie Watkins (8.7m)
Watkins feels like the standout forward for Blank Gameweek 34. He’s hit six goals in his last five games for Aston Villa, with three in three in the league, and looks to have rediscovered his form. Over the last six gameweeks, he’s second among forwards for big chances, which tells you the volume is still there as well as the finishing. That’s exactly what you want in a week where reliable forward options are thin on the ground. Watkins gives you a proven scorer in form, with a real chance to punish anyone who looks elsewhere. On a Free Hit, he’s close to the perfect no brainer.
