Liverpool v Fulham: Line-ups, stats and preview

Liverpool take on Fulham tomorrow knowing they need to bounce back, and quickly, from two dismal performances in the space of a week.

Last Saturday’s 4-0 hammering at Manchester City in the FA Cup was a woeful display but the 2-0 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Wednesday night was arguably just as bad, the scoreline remaining respectable due to some wayward finishing from the hosts.

It has led to renewed speculation regarding Slot’s future but the Dutchman insisted today he is confident he retains the backing of the club’s hierarchy.

He said: “I’m repeating myself a lot but I feel a lot of support. Not only from the owners but from Richard [Hughes] and Michael [Edwards], a lot of support from them as well but as weird as it might sound I also feel the support from the fans.

“In Paris when the players went out for the warm-up and after the 4-0 loss [against City] the fans immediately started singing ‘we love Liverpool’.

“I think it’s fair to say we were outplayed for 90 minutes [in Paris] and they were still singing and clapping for us. I’ve said many times, the club knows the period of time we’re in and in the meantime I feel complete support.”

Liverpool Football Club manager Arne Slot

That stance may change if Liverpool fail to secure Champions League football for next season. They start the weekend in fifth, which would be good enough, but with a host of teams breathing down their necks.

Fulham are also chasing European football and a win at Anfield would move them just two points behind Liverpool.

The Cottagers have lost one of their last five league games and will arrive on Merseyside confident of springing an upset.

Alisson Becker, Conor Bradley, Wataru Endo and Giovanni Leoni are definitely out for Liverpool while Slot also hinted he would take a cautious approach with injury-prone duo Jeremie Frimpong and Joe Gomez.

Mohamed Salah is set to return to the starting XI after failing to come off the bench in midweek. Alexander Isak is likely to be among the substitutes again after his late cameo in Paris.

Fulham will be without the injured Kevin, Kenny Tete and Harrison Reed but Calvin Bassey is fit.
