BREAKING: Liverpool confirm Robertson to leave at the end of the season
Full-back Andy Robertson will leave Liverpool when his contract expires in June
Left-back Andy Robertson will leave Liverpool when his contract expires at the end of the season, the club confirmed this afternoon.
The Scottish veteran was in talks with Tottenham during the January transfer window to depart six months before the end of his contract, but was convinced to stay by head coach Arne Slot.
But it has now been confirmed that the defender will depart, most likely to a standing Anfield ovation, in seven games’ time.
The Scotland international joined Liverpool from Hull City in the summer of 2017 and quickly exceeded expectations.
Initially viewed as a squad option, Robertson forced his way into the starting line-up during his first campaign and soon became an integral part of Jurgen Klopp’s system.
Robertson’s success
During his time on Merseyside, Robertson has amassed an impressive list of honours. He played a crucial role in the club’s 2018-19 Champions League triumph. The following season, he was part of the squad that ended the club’s 30-year wait for a league title.
Robertson also contributed to Liverpool’s successes in the FA Cup and League Cup, completing a domestic cup double in the 2021-22 season. He also featured in the team that won the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
Beyond statistics and trophies, Robertson’s leadership has also been a significant part of his tenure. As captain of Scotland, he brought some much-needed experience and authority to the Liverpool dressing room.
His vocal presence and competitive edge made him a respected figure among team-mates and supporters alike.
Robertson’s departure signals the end of an era for Liverpool, with the defender having been a cornerstone of the club’s resurgence under Klopp, and one of the remaining figures after Slot’s arrival.
While his minutes have been limited this season with the arrival of Milos Kerkez, Robertson will leave as a legend who helped restore Liverpool’s status as a giant of world football.
