Elk, champ and £1,000-a-bottle wines – Rory McIlroy opts for lavish menu for traditional Masters meal
Rory McIlroy has chosen his menu for the traditional pre-Masters meal
Rory McIlroy has selected an eclectic menu that includes high end cuisine and a nod to his Irish roots for his Masters Champions Dinner.
The traditional meal that occurs two days before the tournament gets underway features a menu chosen by the previous year’s champion, which is McIlroy after he ended his long wait for his first Green Jacket 12 months ago.
The Northern Irishman beat Ryder Cup team-mate Justin Rose in a play-off at Augusta to complete the Grand Slam.
Among the many rewards that go with it was the chance to dine alongside former Masters winners.
This year they will be treated to a four-course menu that starts with a choice of four appetisers: elk sliders, rock shrimp tempura, peach and ricotta flatbread, and bacon-wrapped dates. The final option is believed to be one of his mother’s specialities.
Tuna dish one of McIlroy’s favourites at posh New York restaurant
Next up is a yellowfin tuna carpaccio, one of McIlroy’s go-to dishes at Le Bernardin, a three-Michelin star restaurant in Midtown Manhattan, New York.
The guests have two choices for main, either filet mignon or seared salmon. Both will be served with Brussels sprouts, carrots, onion rings and Irish champ, a blend of mashed potatoes, scallions, milk and butter. McIlroy explained: “When I was a kid, I used to eat champ by the bowl full. So I’m trying to tie in a little bit of my upbringing.”
The meal concludes with a sticky toffee pudding.
To wash the food down, McIlroy has gone with an equally lavish wine list. Shane Lowry helped put together options that include a £1000-a-bottle Bordeaux.
The 2026 Masters gets underway on Thursday, April 9 and runs until Sunday, April 12.
