FPL 2025/26: Dorgu and Guimaraes need to be dumped before GW24

FPL GW24 offers the chance for a reset

FPL 2025/26: Dorgu and Guimaraes need to be dumped before GW24

FPL gameweek 24 is here – the week managers have been circling since those fixture swings first appeared on the horizon, writes Fantasy Premier League expert Blake Hurst. After a wild Gameweek 23 that saw chaos everywhere – from Manchester United’s shock win to Bournemouth’s late heroics – now comes the moment to tidy up, react to injuries, and get ahead of the schedule. Whether it’s rotation risks, knocks, or simply better options emerging, this is the point in the season where ruthlessness pays off. Here are five players you should be looking to sell or avoid before GW 24 kicks off.

Bruno Guimarães (7.2m)

Eddie Howe has long been the bane of FPL managers, and once again, he’s left us in limbo. Guimarães’ fitness continues to be uncertain, with Howe offering little clarity as usual – and that’s reason enough to move him on. When a player’s availability is unclear going into the most important fixture swing of the season, you simply can’t risk it. Newcastle’s fixtures aren’t bad, but there are far better midfield options around right now with confirmed minutes and better form. Unless Howe explicitly confirms Bruno is fit and ready, it’s time to sell. The upside elsewhere outweighs the risk of another frustrating benching.

Cole Palmer (10.4m)

This one stings, because if Palmer were fully fit, he’d be close to essential. Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures look brilliant on paper, but Palmer’s recurring fitness issues and rotation risk make him a dangerous hold at his price. For a slightly cheaper, more reliable alternative, Enzo Fernández offers steady starts and strong underlying numbers. Even though Palmer may start against West Ham, you’re likely one knock away from another transfer – and that’s not what FPL managers want during a busy run of fixtures. If you don’t have the depth to absorb a risk, he’s best avoided until we see him string together consistent minutes again.

Chelsea forward Cole Palmer

Cristian Romero (5.0m)

If you rolled the dice on Romero recently, congratulations – you’ve been nicely rewarded. Two consecutive matches with DEFCON returns and goals along the way have delivered tidy points. But the time to cash out is now. Spurs’ defensive solidity remains questionable, and Romero’s attacking output has likely peaked for the short term. With better value options emerging and Tottenham’s fixtures turning tricky with Manchester City, Newcastle, Manchester United and Arsenal in the next four gameweeks –  it’s smart to take the points and look elsewhere. He’s served his purpose as a short-term punt, but expecting repeated returns isn’t sustainable. Bank the haul, move the funds, and reinvest in defenders with stronger clean-sheet prospects.

Jeremie Frimpong (5.8m)

Jeremie Frimpong’s campaign took a turn for the worse when he limped off in Liverpool’s midweek Champions League clash. That injury makes him an instant sell, especially given the price tag. At 5.8m, there’s no reason to hold or wait – plenty of budget-friendly defenders offer solid clean-sheet potential and bonus point security. The injury also has a knock-on effect for Liverpool’s midfield, with Dominik Szoboszlai expected to drop deeper and fill in at right-back. That positional change makes both assets far less appealing for FPL. Simple advice: sell both Frimpong & Szoboszlai now, and don’t overthink it.

Patrick Dorgu (4.4m)

A cruel blow for one of the breakout defensive options of the season. Dorgu looked electric under Michael Carrick – scoring against both Manchester City and Arsenal, earning himself over 255,000 new owners. But the harsh lesson of FPL strikes again: never make early transfers. Reports confirm a hamstring injury that could keep Dorgu out for around 10 weeks, instantly turning a rising star into a must-sell. It’s a real shame given his recent form, but there’s no sense holding that kind of dead weight on your bench. Move him on, recover the funds, and reallocate to a nailed, fit defender for the weeks ahead.
