Benin 0-3 Senegal: Report, result, goals from AFCON 2025

Senegal topped Group D despite having a man sent off in a comfortable win against Benin in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Former Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly saw red in the second half of his 100th cap for a clumsy foul but the result was never in doubt in Tangier.

Benin have joined the group winners and DR Congo in the last 16 despite the defeat, and will play Egypt in the knockout stage next Monday.

Senegal will play Sudan or Burkina Faso in their last-16 tie – wiith the suspension of Koulibaly the only bad news from their workout on Tuesday night.

Central defender Abdoulaye Seck put Senegal ahead before goals from Habib Diallo and substitute Cherif Ndiaye wrapped up the win.

The 34-year-old Koulibaly, who led Senegal to victory at the 2021 edition of the tournament, was initially shown a yellow card for his foul on Aiyegun Tosin, when he stamped on the back of the Benin forward’s ankle with his boot, but it was upgraded to red after a VAR review.
