Preview for Ivory Coast v Cameroon

Two of the continent’s footballing heavyweights go head to head in Group F of the Africa Cup of Nations at Stade de Marrakech, knowing a victory would all but secure a place in the knockout stages.

Both teams enjoyed opening-day wins, with tournament holders Ivory coast seeing off Mozambique 1-0 courtesy of Manchester United’s Amad Diallo while Cameroon defeated Gabon by the same scoreline.

Recent results between the two sides would appear to favour the Elephants, who have lost only one of the past five meetings in a run dating back to November 2014.

However, the Indomitable Lions – under boss David Pagou, who took up the role on the eve of the tournament – will be hoping for a strong showing in Morocco, having failed to qualify for next summer’s World Cup in the US, Mexico and Canada.

Diallo’s Manchester United teammate Bryan Mbeumo will be aiming to get off the mark for Cameroon this campaign, while Brighton’s Carlos Baleba is also expected to retain his place in the team.
