DK Metcalf: NFL to rule on fan altercation as Pittsburgh Steelers WR lashes out

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf is facing an anxious wait to learn his fate after appearing to punch a fan during the win over the Detroit Lions yesterday.

Metcalf wandered over to the stands in the second quarter of the clash at Ford Field, grabbed the fan’s shirt and then thrust his right hand towards him with force.

Because it was not part of the on-field action, the NFL was unable to intervene but the incident has been referred to the league for further investigation.

Fan claims he used Metcalf’s full name

The fan was tracked down by the Detroit Free Press and claimed he had angered Metcalf after calling him by his full name.

“He doesn’t like his government name,” said the fan, who said his name was Ryan Kennedy from Pinckney, Michigan. “I called him that and then he grabbed me and ripped my shirt. I’m a little shocked. Like everyone’s talking to me. I’m a little rattled, but I just want the Lions to win, baby.”

Asked about the altercation after the game, Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said: “I heard about it, but I hadn’t seen it and I hadn’t had an opportunity to talk to DK, and so I have no comment.”

Metcalf has yet to comment publicly.

The Steelers overcame a wild finish to win the game 29-24 and move to 9-6 for the season.

“I’m just so appreciative of the men that I work with and the fight they displayed individually and collectively,” Tomlin said. “Certainly weren’t perfect, a lot of adversity, some of it created by us. But they didn’t blink and that’s what’s required this time of year.”

Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers finished 27 of 41 for 266 yards.
