Real Madrid 2-0 Sevilla: Report, result and goals as Bellingham and Mbappe seal victory
Madrid put pressure on their arch rivals.
Real Madrid moved within a point of Barcelona at the top of LaLiga as they saw off Sevilla 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Madrid had lost their last two home games, suffering defeats to Celta Vigo and Manchester City prior to away wins over Alaves and Talavera, the latter in the Copa del Rey.
And they were unconvincing for long periods against a Sevilla side that stunned Barcelona earlier in the season and created plenty of chances in Saturday’s tight encounter.
Jude Bellingham broke the deadlock with a first-half header, and Madrid saw several opportunities to extend the lead go begging.
The dismissal of Marcao for a second bookable offence made Madrid’s task easier, and Kylian Mbappe’s late penalty made sure of the points, his 59th Madrid goal in 2025 moving him level with Cristiano Ronaldo for the most by a Los Blancos player in a calendar year.

Bellingham puts Real Madrid ahead
Fran Garcia was denied by a smart Odysseas Vlachodimos save in the fourth minute before Sevilla offered an illustration of their threat when Isaac Romero lifted a finish over Thibaut Courtois but wide of the right-hand post.
Mbappe then fired across the face of goal and narrowly wide, but Bellingham’s brilliant header had both power and precision after he rose to meet Rodrygo’s free-kick from the right in the 38th minute.
What appeared to be developing into a frustrating evening for Mbappe continued early in the second half as he spurned a pair of chances to double the lead, and he had Courtois to thank for ensuring his profligacy was not punished.
The Belgian twice denied the dangerous Romero, before Mbappe hit the crossbar with a looping header.
Courtois displayed his fine reflexes again to turn a long-range effort from Alexis Sanchez behind, but he had a quieter game after Marcao received his second yellow for a foul on Bellingham.
Ill-discipline would ultimately be Sevilla’s undoing.
Mbappe makes history
Vlachodimos produced heroics to deny Rodrygo a stunning goal, the Brazilian’s turning volley tipped over by the Greece international, yet the on-loan Newcastle United goalkeeper was powerless to prevent Mbappe from settling matters.
Juan Sanchez tripped Rodrygo in the area and Mbappe tucked away the resulting spot-kick with consummate ease as he made history by tying Ronaldo.
Madrid appeared to have another penalty when Bellingham went over in the area, only for the referee’s original to be overturned following a VAR review.
That was merely a footnote in a routine if unconvincing win for Madrid, who will now see if Villarreal can do them a favour when they face Barca on Sunday.
