Haaland admits Odegaard injury ‘tough’ as striker prepares for latest World Cup qualifiers
Norway will be without the Arsenal midfielder for the next set of fixtures.
Erling Haaland says life will be “tough” for Norway after losing Martin Odegaard to another injury.
Just hours before Manchester City’s match against Brentford on Sunday, the Norwegian Football Federation confirmed that Odegaard had sustained a ligament injury in his left knee during Arsenal’s Premier League fixture against West Ham.
Following medical examinations, it was announced that the midfielder would not join up with the national team for this month’s camp.
National team doctor Ola Sand provided an update, explaining: “The injury means that he will not be ready to play for this training camp.
“We are in close contact with the medical support team at Arsenal, who will be responsible for the treatment going forward.”
Odegaard’s absence comes at a crucial stage for Norway, who face Israel in a vital World Cup qualifier before a friendly against New Zealand.
Haaland acknowledged that playing without Norway’s captain will be a challenge, but vowed to do everything he can to fill the void.
“It’s a shame and it’s not good for us. We need him, so I hope it’s not serious. I haven’t spoken to him, but it didn’t look good. We’re going to miss our captain, it’s tough.
“We just have to do the best we can without Martin. It won’t be easy, as he is a big part of our game – but we have to do what we can without him – and I will do what I can to do that,” Haaland said.
