Sevilla 4-1 Barcelona: Report, result and goals as Rashford goal not enough for Blaugrana

For the first time since October 2015, Sevilla have defeated Barcelona in LaLiga – and they did it in style.

Under the lights of the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan, the hosts delivered a relentless 4-1 win that will live long in the memory.

From the very first whistle, Sevilla played with a scary level of intensity and belief, snapping into tackles and springing forward with purpose.

The early warning signs for Barcelona came as early as the third minute, when Alexis Sanchez forced Wojciech Szczesny into a save.

Moments later, the hosts’ pressure paid off. After a VAR check confirmed a foul by Ronald Araujo on Isaac Romero, Sanchez stepped up and coolly dispatched his penalty into the bottom corner.

Barcelona struggled to find any rhythm, with their back line repeatedly undone by Sevilla’s pace and precision in transition.

The home side doubled their lead just after the half-hour mark. Jules Kounde was caught in possession, allowing Ruben Vargas to burst forward and square for Romero, who finally found the net at the fourth attempt to make it 2-0.

The visitors looked rattled and disjointed – until a flash of brilliance before the interval. Deep into stoppage time, Marcus Rashford latched onto a laser-guided Pedri pass and volleyed home to cut the deficit.

Despite the Englishman’s goal arriving well beyond the allotted time, it reignited hope for Barcelona as they went into the break trailing 2-1.

Second-half struggles

Hansi Flick reacted by reshuffling his side at half-time, introducing Eric Garcia and Alejandro Balde to steady the defence.

But Sevilla refused to retreat. The second half began with both sides trading half-chances, with Pedri testing Odysseas Vlachodimos and Romero forcing more saves from Szczesny.

The game’s turning point arrived on 76 minutes when Barcelona were handed a golden opportunity to level.

Substitute Adnan Januzaj, barely on the pitch, fouled Balde in the box – but Robert Lewandowski’s penalty clipped the left post and went wide.

It was a huge let-off for Sevilla, who were roared on by an increasingly raucous home crowd.

Barcelona’s missed chance seemed to deflate them completely. With the visitors pushing high in search of an equaliser, Sevilla struck ruthlessly on the counter.

In the 90th minute, Lucien Agoume slipped in Jose Angel Carmona, who drilled a low shot through Balde’s legs and into the far corner for 3-1. The stadium erupted.

As Barcelona crumbled, Sevilla weren’t done. Substitute Chidera Ejuke burst down the left in stoppage time and found Akor Adams, who coolly slotted beneath Szczesny to seal the historic 4-1 win.

The Nigerian’s composure summed up Sevilla’s night – confident, clinical, and utterly deserved.
