WATCH: Ollie Watkins ends 10-game goal drought with delightful lob to equalise for Villa against Fulham
Ollie Watkins finally ended his goal drought for Aston Villa as he brought his side level in the first half against Fulham.
Villa, still searching for their first Premier League win of the season, went 1-0 down after three minutes through Raul Jimenez but got the goal they and striker Watkins needed before the half-time break.
After surviving a few scares as Fulham looked to double their lead, a long ball forward from Lucas Digne was latched onto by Watkins, who excellently lifted the ball over Bernd Leno before the ball eventually bounced into the net.
Watkins’ last goal came all the way back in April, when he scored against Bournemouth to become Villa’s all-time top Premier League goalscorer.
Since then, he has struggled to find form for the Villans, missing a huge chance to get the winner against Sunderland last week before missing a penalty against Bologna in the Europa League on Thursday.
After the 29-year-old was clearly low on confidence, he will hope this goal can be the catalyst for him rediscovering the form which has seen him become one of the Premier League’s deadliest strikers in recent years.
Despite the goal, the game remained tightly poised as it headed into the half-time break with Villa still needing much more to get their first win of the season with Fulham the better side in the first half.
