Wimbledon 2025: Jannik Sinner to face Carlos Alcaraz in final after beating Novak Djokovic

Jannik Sinner will take on reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final after producing a commanding performance to end Novak Djokovic’s pursuit of a record 25th Grand Slam title.

The 23-year-old Italian overpowered the seven-time Wimbledon winner in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3, 6-4, to secure his first-ever final appearance at the All England Club.

The result also sets up a rematch of last month’s thrilling French Open final, where Sinner fell to Alcaraz despite a two-set lead.

Between them, Alcaraz and Sinner have now featured in each of the last six men’s singles Grand Slam finals.

While Sinner’s previous major triumphs have come on hard courts, Sunday’s showdown presents a shot at his first grass-court Grand Slam title.

Djokovic had entered the tournament seeing this as one of his best opportunities to move ahead of Margaret Court’s long-standing record, especially on the grass where he’s historically thrived.

But after being comprehensively outplayed for two sets, the 38-year-old mounted a brief rally before Sinner closed out the match with five straight games to book his fifth Grand Slam final.

This latest win marks Sinner’s sixth consecutive victory over Djokovic, though it’s the first to come on grass. Both players carried fitness concerns into the match, but Sinner appeared unaffected by his recent elbow issue, while Djokovic needed a medical timeout after the second set.

Sunday’s final offers the Italian a shot at redemption, just five weeks on from his five-set defeat to Alcaraz at Roland Garros.

“It’s a huge honour for me to share the court again with Carlos,” Sinner said.

“Hopefully it will be a good match like the last one – I don’t know if it will be better because I don’t know if that’s possible but we will try – hopefully it will be an enjoyable match.”

Alcaraz, the world No. 2, earned his place in the final earlier on Friday by overcoming American fifth seed Taylor Fritz 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6).
