Liverpool recorded their first pre-season loss against Roma, as goals from Michael Bradley and Alessandro Florenzi helped the Italians to a 2-1 win in Boston. Charlie Adam scored the Reds’ lone goal.
Midfielder Jonjo Shelvey was at the centre of the majority of Liverpool’s attacks in the first half, and the 20-year-old almost netted a spectacular solo goal as he beat several Roma defenders before his shot was tipped away by Lobont.

In the second half Brendan Rogers threw on young Spanish winger Suso. Mostly deployed down the right-hand side, the left-football midfielder showed several neat touches and turns of pace against the Gillorossi, without actually penetrating the Roma defence to any significant affect.

Another second half performer was Lucas Leiva. The Brazilian, who missed most of last season through injury, replaced Jay Spearing in the 50th minute, and there were plenty of green shoots of hope for the enforcer. Lucas was tidy and confident with his passing, while he executed a tough tackle late in the game from with he emerged unscathed.

Dani Pacheco was another second half Liverpool sub, and the youngster also put in a lively performance. Operating down the left wing, the Spaniard was generally efficient in possession, with his standout moment arriving when he teed up Charlie Adam for the Scousers goal towards the end of the match.
