Argentine legend, and for many, the greatest player to ever play the Beautiful Game, Diego Maradona, once again made headlines this week.
On the appointment of an Argentinean Pope, Maradona produced yet another immortal quote:
“Everybody in Argentina can remember ‘the hand of God’ in the England match in the 1986 World Cup. Now, in my country, the ‘hand of God’ has brought us an Argentinian pope.”
Besides his usual outspoken manner, Maradona also graced a football pitch earlier this week, as he took part in the “7 Up Dubai Government Entities Football League.”
According to some rather sketchy reports, El Diego claimed two goals in this game, bagged an assist and was also booked for arguing with the referee!
Fan footage from the game has predictably emerged online and the major clip shows Maradona coming close to scoring a wonder goal in the Dubai match.
Even at 52-years-old it is quite clear Maradona is still a class act. Quite why or how you would leave the 1986 World Cup winner at the back post is beyond this author though…
